CLUB INFORMATION

At The Annual General Meeting of the Club, held on 5th December 2006,  Norman Turnbull was elected President, with

Henry Douglas was elected Vice President.

The new Council members are Willie Aitkin, Kenny King and John Yallop who join the existing Council comprising of Gerry Boles, Derek Oliver, Kevin Murray, Ex-Cornet Rory Culton, Ronald Hutton and Brian Tait. Past President Scott Elliot  and Tom Holmes remain as Honorary Treasurer and Secretary respectively.

 

 

The Annual Dinner of the Club was  held in the Mansfield House Hotel on Friday 2nd March 2007, when the Guest of the Club was  the Rector of  Hawick High School, Mr Alan Williamson. During the evening, the Honorary Provost Ken McCartney announced that the Chief Guest for the 2007 Common Riding was to be the Minister of Trinity Church, Rev  E. P. Lindsay Thomson, who also happens to be Chaplain of the Club.  President Turnbull  also presented  Cornet Reid with the winning entries in the Primary Schools Essay Competition. The Club was saddened to hear of the death of Past President Adam Robson. Adam was President in 2002 and former Chief Guest at the Common Riding. Adam won 22 caps for Scotland and was President of the Scottish Rugby Union in 1983-84 when Scotland won their first Grand Slam since 1925.  A graduate from Edinburgh College of Art, Adam taught Art at Dollar Academy until retiring in 1988. Adam presented the Club with two of his paintings which are kept by the President and Vice President and displayed at the Annual Dinner – a worthy reminder of a true gentleman in every sense.

 

 

On Sunday 22nd April, several members of the club and friends visited the Teviot Stane at the head of the River Teviot. The "Teviot  Stone was  restored by Hawick Callants Club 1931" . For photos of the visit please click on the link below.
